Video: Beauty of Australia Series: Waratah 1

Being sensitive to the energy of the natural environment, the indigenous people of Australia know that different plants and flowers have different healing properties that can be transmitted to anyone: Simply being in the vicinity of the flowers and coming 'Under their Gaze' is enough.

While this is an innate instinct for people still intune with the dreamtime of this great continent, most city dwellers don't have the opportunity to 'Go Bush' when physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually depleted.

Enter the World of 'Visually absorbing the Essence of the Bush Flowers.'

Silk became the media for me to bring ‘Life’ to visual impressions of our Native Flowers. Being technically adept at finely detailed Serti Silk Painting was just the beginning. How to instill painting with the ‘Healing Essence’ of the flowers was to become my creative challenge.

Combining the Australian indigenous word: Waratah with the Greek Genus name: Telopea, the meaning of ‘Waratah’ is aptly ‘Beauty Seen from Afar.’

The beauty of one of these crimson WILD flowers in full bloom, standing tall amongst the soft blue/green/grays of the Australian bush ‘scrub’ all around the Sydney area is a magnificent sight to see .. And the ‘Waratah Presence’ can be very strongly felt.

The ‘Essence of Waratah’ can instill qualities of courage and vitality as well as imparting survival skills, supporting adaptability. For me the Waratah also emulates the spirit and lifeblood of Australia and I aspired to capture this quality in my paintings.

This short video is just the start of documenting the 12 year period in which I produced Wearable Art * Framed Paintings * Wall Panels and Screens * Before designing THE ultimate, one and only, and never-to-be-repeated-again wall hanging ‘Australian WILD Flowers.’

And it’s my hope that these videos will now enable any viewers to absorb some of the healing energy of Australia via the 'Waratah' and many other distinctive plants and flowers from ‘The Great Land Down Under.’

WILD Beauty of Australia: No 1 Waratahs, Flannel Flowers and Donkey Orchids

This short video is based on three of my original paintings on silk: 'Waratahs and Flannel Flowers' with ‘Donkey Orchid No 1’ and ‘Donkey Orchid No 2.’

Being sensitive to the energy of the natural environment, the indigenous people of Australia know that different plants and flowers have different healing properties that can be transmitted to anyone: Simply being in the environs of the trees, plants and flowers and coming 'Under their Gaze' is enough for them to receive their vibrational energy.

While this innate instinct serves people still in touch with the dreamtime of this great continent, most city dwellers don't have the opportunity to 'Go Bush' whenever they feel physically, emotionally, mentally or spiritually depleted.

But we all have the ability to visually absorb this same ‘Essence of these Bush Flowers.'

The ‘Essence of Waratah’ is believed to support adaptability whilst instilling courage and vitality. For me, the Waratah also emulates the spirit and lifeblood of Australia and so I aspired to capture all these qualities in my paintings.

Flannel Flowers often thrive in the same vicinity as Waratahs. Softly textured: Hence the name: They radiate a calming energy, enveloping one in a sense of security and being very well cared for.

Donkey Orchids are usually colored yellow, orange and brown * But intrigued by their unusual shapes, I interpreted their ‘tails’ as being tendrils searching for new ways to communicate with all beings. So with ‘artistic license’ my Donkey Orchids took on a new life in blue/violet.

This short video is just the first of a series of videos that will document the 12 year period in which I produced Wearable Art * Framed Paintings * Wall Panels and Screens * Before designing THE ultimate, one and only, and never-to-be-repeated-again wall hanging ‘Australian WILD Flowers.’

And it’s my hope now that these videos will enable viewers to visually absorb some of the healing energy of Australia via many of the distinctive plants and flowers from ‘The Great Land Down Under.’

Waratah Hand Painted Silk Scarf * Serti Silk Painting

The revelation that this energy could be infused VISUALLY was very new to me and the ‘floodgates of inspiration’ opened. My love of being in our Australian Bush with all our flora and fauna, my passion for art and my innate inclination towards natural healing could at last converge.

Silk was the obvious media for me to bring ‘life’ to visual impressions of our Native Flowers. Being technically adept at finely detailed serti silk painting was just the beginning.
Magnolia Silk Painted Scarves and Paintings

Waterlily flowers are thought to be the most primordial flowers on our planet and Magnolias are also known to be just about as ‘ancient.’

I’ve always been attracted to the fullness of the Magnolia buds as their petals open and was drawing and painting them long before painting them on silk. So the designs of these Magnolia Scarves and Paintings came from my original drawings (from life.)

Absorb the essence of Magnolia and come in touch with your own ‘splendid beauty and sensuousness * Your dignity and perseverance.

Hand Painted Silk Scarves

After attending a single morning silk workshop the ‘inspiration floodgates’ opened * The world of silk art continued to expand as I experimented in isolation for months, in order to ‘perfect’ my personal serti silk painting techniques.

The basic serti technique requires the design outlines to be drawn with a resist, so that the separately defined areas can then be painted with blends of colourfields, ranging from delicate ethereal hues to brilliant vibrancy.

My aim was to specialize in refining the serti line as well as the application of colour * Applying all my acquired fine art ‘skills’ of drawing and watercolor to this craft.

About me * Ally

It seemed only natural to become immersed in the reciprocal relationship between art and healing and in my silk art work in particular I aimed at infusing the healing vibrations of the native bush plants/flowers into my paintings. At that time I was also making my own Australian bush flower essences. From there I moved into multi-media and photography and of course digital image-making. Still interweaving Art with Natural Healing * Instilling Healing into Art and Creative Energy into Healing.
